Ethan Pernela

Viola

Violist Ethan Pernela, of Fairbanks Alaska, started his musical studies on the violin at the age of 12.  He began taking private lessons on viola at age 16.   Mr. Pernela finished his Graduate Diploma with Martha Katz at the New England Conservatory of Music in 2005.  He received his Bachelors Degree in 2002 under the tutelage of James Dunham and finished his Master’s Degree in 2004 with honors in Academics, Orchestra and Chamber Music at NEC.

Mr. Pernela has been invited to play with such orchestras as Saint Louis Symphony, Oregon Symphony, New World Symphony, Portland Symphony, Aspen Festival Orchestra, among others.  As an active chamber musician, Mr. Pernela participated in the NEC Honors Ensembles program under the guidance of Eric Rosenblith in 2004 and has collaborated with such artists as Donald Weilerstein, Katherine Murdock, Natasha Brofsky, Borromeo String Quartet, and Mark Hill, among others.  He received the opportunity to participate in master classes with Robert Mann, Roger Tapping, Donald Weilerstein, Joel Krosnick, Ronald Copes, Emerson String Quartet and Raphael Hillyer.

This summer Mr. Pernela will be joining the Verbier Festival Orchestra in Switzerland which will have a tour around Europe and the USA.  Previous summer festivals include the TAOS School of Music, Yellow Barn, Kneisel Hall, Aspen Music Festival and School, Musicorda, and Interlochen Center for the Arts.  He joined the Honolulu Symphony in 2007.
