Greg Wrenn
Violin
Gregory Wrenn has played in the first violin section of the Honolulu Symphony since 1996. Born and raised in Honolulu, he graduated in 1986 from Punahou School and went on to receive his B.A. in music from Pomona College and a M.M. in Violin Performance from the Yale School of Music. While at Pomona he was the founder and first violinist of the Orfeo String Quartet. His orchestral experience has included positions with the Waterbury and Wallingford Symphonies (CT), the Pasadena Pops Orchestra (CA), and the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada in Spain.
Greg’s early violin studies were with Sandra Wong in Honolulu. In college he studied with Yoko Matsuda of the Sequoia String Quartet and at Yale with Syoko Aki.
Greg is the founder and Artistic Director of Pacific International Concert Artists, Inc. (PICA) a local non-profit, performing arts organization that produces semi-annual chamber music concerts in different venues across O'ahu. He participates in the music ministry at St. Pius X Church in Manoa Valley as volunteer organist and violinist.
He loves flying, and doesn't mind the commute between his two homes in Honolulu and San Francisco where his partner Robert and their canine daughter Maggie reside. He is also a member of the World Airline Historical Society and Friends of Freedom.
