"I don't believe an orchestra should exist in an ivory tower, but should find its relevance
in the life of its community. Please remember, this orchestra belongs to the community."
- Steve Dinion, timpanist, percussionist

Steve Flanter

Viola

Steve Flanter joined the Honolulu Symphony in 1989. Originally from Stony Brook, New York, he attended the State University of New York at Purchase, where he studied with Emanuel Vardi and did graduate work at The Cleveland Institute of Music, studying with Robert Vernon.

When he is not playing in the Honolulu Symphony or teaching viola at Iolani School, Steve enjoys exploring the varied and intriguing repertoire for his instrument in chamber music and recital performances.
