William Parrish
Oboe/English Horn
Oboist and English horn player Wiliam Parrish new to Hawaii and hails from Lynchburg, Virginia. He received his musical training from Carnegie Mellon University, Philadelphia College of Performing Arts and Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. His primary teachers were Robert Bloom, Harry Sargous, John Ferrillo and Elaine Douvas. He was a finalist in the 1989 Concert Artist Guild auditions and a prizewinner in the 1988 Lucarelli International Oboe Competition at Carnegie Hall.
Bill has participated in the Sarasota Music Festival, Los Angles Philharmonic Institute, Music Academy of the West and the Spoleto Festival. He was a founding member and played oboe and English horn with the Chamber Music Society of Charleston (S.C.) for three years. For ten years he served as the Associate Director of the Pre-College Division at Juiliiard School where he also coached wind chamber music. He has performed with the Delaware Symphony, Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia, Detroit Chamber Winds, New Jersey Symphony, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, San Francisco Lyric Opera, and the San Francisco Symphony.
In Virginia, Bill has developed a private oboe teaching studio drawing students from all over the state. He is also a founding member and principal oboe for Opera on the James, a new and wildly successful opera company based in Lynchburg.
Bill is a passionate teacher and reedmaker and enjoys cooking, swimming, creative writing and living in Hawaii.
