"I believe one of the HSO's most crucial roles is that of education.
If we can teach kids in the community to love classical music, then we are
preparing the next generation of music lovers."
- Mike Szabo, bass trombonist

Per-Service Musician

A "Per-Service Musician" is one who performs on a part-time basis, currently with a contractual guarantee of 84 services (rehearsals or concerts) per season. These musicians perform primarily for the Masterworks Series, and have the right of first refusal for all other performances where extra musicians or substitutes are required. The Honolulu Symphony has 20 of these positions, 19 in the string sections and one in the French Horn section. They are tenured members of the orchestra and receive all the contractual rights of the full-time musicians, including health and instrument insurance benefits.
