"I don’t believe an orchestra should exist in an ivory tower, but should find its relevance
in the life of its community. Please remember, this orchestra belongs to the community.”
- Steve Dinion, timpanist, percussionist

December 19-21, 2003 - Ballet Hawai'i's Nutcracker

Angela Pitrone and children

Finding a special way to celebrate the holidays, Angela Pirrone brought her two daughters Kahea, 7, and Alia, 5, to Ballet Hawai'i's Nutcracker. The Symphony performs for this production annually. Clarinetist Jim Moffitt, right, emerged from the pit to greet people in the lobby. Angela is on staff at the Hawai'i Musicians Union.

Nutracker Lobby

The audience fills the lobby at intermission during The Nutcracker, a magnificent production that all ages enjoyed at the Blaisdell Concert Hall December 19 - 21, 2003. In his sixth appearance as conductor of the Honolulu Symphony for Ballet Hawaii's Nutcracker, Stuart Chatetz is also our Principal Timpanist.

Maurer family

Craig and Stacy Maurer and their daughters were a cheerful part of the Concertgoer's Scene at Ballet Hawai'i's Nutcracker. Audiences at Blaisdell not only enjoy a great show, but also often meet members of the Symphony during intermission and sometimes have their picture taken!

Sue, Hannah, Ruth

Principal flutist Sue McGinn enjoyed her intermission during the Nutcracker performance chatting with her friend Ruth Ceretti, shown here with her daughter Hannah wearing the Santa hat.
